Memorial Day Weekend

We were so busy getting ready for Memorial Day Weekend, that I didn't have time to write a blog for a while. We had to hustle to finish installing our new furniture in our rooms so that we could be ready for the weekend. Finished just in time! We had a great weekend with four soccer teams at the hotel. Every Memorial Day Weekend there is a soccer tournament on the Cape and the hotels fill quickly with families whose children participate in the tournament.

We have many of the same teams come every year. Our property is perfect for families and groups with our acre picnic area, playground, BBQ grills, and picnic tables. Most of the teams enjoyed barbecues every evening while the kids played soccer, football, frisbee or just hung out. When the evening became cooler, many moved indoors to our oversized indoor pool area. After a long quiet winter, it was wonderful to see so many people enjoying themselves and taking advantage of the good weather to enjoy hanging out in the picnic area. Helen's Diner, our breakfast diner, was also popular in the mornings as families enjoyed a hearty breakfast before the soccer games.

This weekend marks the beginning of the season and it was a great beginning. Now, if the weather cooperates, the tourists will continue to flock to the Cape to enjoy it's beaches and unique beauty.

We've Had Babies Again!

Directly across the street from the Tidewater is a lovely pond, Mill Pond, that is home to two beautiful swans among other wildlife. Every spring we watch the female sitting on a nest protected by grasses. What incredible patience! Finally, we are rewarded with little fuzzy baby swans or cygnets. This year we have been anxiously waiting for the baby cygnets. Last week I saw that the nest was empty and when I looked more closely, I saw several fuzzy babies with the proud parents surrounding them.

They have grown considerably the last few days and are venturing further into the pond. It's been fascinating watching them grow and see the diligent protection of the parents. Route 28 is a very busy commercial strip, but there are still spots of tranquility that bring us back to nature and this is one of my favorite. If you visit the Tidewater, make sure to walk across the street to see these beautiful swans.

Dinner Train on Cape Cod

The Cape Cod Central Railroad has again started one of its most popular and romantic events, the Elegant Dinner Train, "where every table is a window view." You can sit back and relax as you dine on a 50-mile long journey from Hyannis to the Canal. Soft music and fresh flower enhance the five course gourmet meal which has been freshly prepared on board. The dinner train crosses the Cape Cod Canal railroad bridge into the quaint village of Buzzards Bay. This unique dining experience has been featured on the Food Network for "dining excellence". Many of my guests who have experienced this wonderful dinner train have raved about it. According to one guest, the only problem was the drinks sliding as the train negotiated some turns! Sounds like fun.

This is an adult only dinner and reservations are required. The train departs from Hyannis at 6:30 PM and returns at 9:30PM. Reserved online at www.capetrain.com or call 888-797-7245.

Mother's Day

As a mother of two wonderful daughters, there is no greater gift for me than spending time with them now that they are not living at home. I always tell them that the best Mother's Day gift for me is a day spend with them. Last year they surprised me with a mother/daughter spa day which was fun and relaxing. However, I would be just as happy with a walk on the beach, a hike, exploring a Cape Cod town just as long as we were together.

I know that many mother's would feel the same way. Why not bring your mother for a surprise visit to the Cape where you can spend quality time together. With today's hectic lifestyles, it's often difficult to find the time to appreciate our loved ones. We are featuring a mother's day special this weekend for $120 for two nights Friday and Saturday and $100 for two nights Sunday through Thursday. If you can't make it this weekend, the special is valid until May 20th. Make your Mom happy and spend some time with her.
