Cape Cod National Seashore

"A man may stand there and put all America behind him." Henry David Thoreau on the area now designated the Cape Cod National Seashore.

Cape Cod National Seashore turns 50 this year and it's going to be a year of special events and celebrations. It's hard to believe that there was a great deal of opposition to preserving this area and making it a national park. Read this interesting article about the great debate on designating the seashore a national park: http://www.wickedlocal.com/capecod/features/x1911150918/Cape-Cod-National-Seashore-50th-Anniversary-The-Great-DebateOne.  The National Seashore is the most unspoiled and undeveloped part of the Cape and is one of my favorite places to visit when I need solice. The best place to begin is at the Salt Pond Visitors Center on Route 6 in Eastham where there is a museum and guides to answer questions. Coast Guard beach is consistantly voted one of the best beaches in the US. My brother and his family frequent this beach when they return to the Northeast from Chicago because of the waves and they can surf with their boogey boards. The water is cold, but the beaches are pristine and breathtaking. Along the National Seashore there are nature trails, bike trails, lighthouses, picnic areas, and historic sights. Here's a link with special events celebrating the 50th anniversary: http://www.nps.gov/caco/cape-cod-national-seashore-50th-anniversary.htm

The park is located on a 40 mile stretch of Route 6 and ends at Provincetown, which is a beautiful place to spend the rest of the day enjoying the many shops, restaurants, beaches and sand dunes. Provincetown is also the home of whale watching, dune tours, and many artists galleries. So give us a call at Tidewater at 508-775-6322 and we'd be happy to help you plan a few days on the Cape.
