Summer Has Arrived?

Even though summer is technically here, it certainly hasn't felt like summer on the Cape. It feels as if it's been raining the entire month of June and the sun hasn't made its presence for what feels like weeks. But that is about to change..."the sun will come out tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow there'll be sun!" Sorry, but Annie was always one of my favorite musicals. The weather forecast shows sun in the horizon for tomorrow and into the weekend. There's also a chance of showers on Saturday, but just scattered showers. Let's hope they're right!

Peak season is about to begin and the prices will be going up, but there's some bargains this weekend. Call us at 508-775-6322 for more details. Our July special will be 30% discount for 3 or more nights.

Biking on Cape Cod

When you come to the Cape, bring your bike and enjoy the beauty of the Cape far from the highways and traffic. The cool spring days we've had are perfect for bike riding so bring your bike and explore the Cape on two wheels. With miles of trails designed especially for cycling and with trails along the ocean, woods, salt marshes, bike riding has become one of the area's most popular activities.

There are trails for the beginner cyclist to the most avid cyclist. The Yarmouth Bike Trail runs 3 miles from Higgins Crowell Road to the town park at Old Townhouse Road. The park features a playground, soccer and baseball fields, and basketball courts. The most popular and longest trail, Cape Cod Rail Trail ,runs for 34 miles through the towns of Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Chatham, Orleans, Eastham and Wellfleet. The trail, which has been recently renovated in a $6.5 million project, is ideal for cyclists with its paved surface, few hill and bike rentals along the way. There is very scenic short trail at the National Seashore Visitor's Center at Salt Pond. For more information go to www.ccrailtrail.com.

Plymouth

We often take our surroundings for granted while others travel long distances to visit our towns. My husband and I live in Plymouth and while we have driven downtown and walked around enjoying the scenery, we never took the time to explore our historic town until we had friends visit. Our friends who live in Belgium were visiting the east coast of Canada and took a few days to drive to Plymouth for a short visit. They travel extensively and are interested in history so we took them to downtown Plymouth and visited the Mayflower. While we have seen the Mayflower many times, we had never explored the inside. This of course was a replica that was built in England and made the two month trip to the United States while Nixon was president. It was fascinating to see how 125 people made it to the America within the cramped quarters of this ship.

We also saw Plymouth Rock whose beautiful new columns overwhelm the small rock. The rock is now more a symbol of the Pilgrims landing in America rather than a specific location. We also enjoyed walking on the waterfront and visiting the many shops. The moving Vietnam Memorial Wall was also visiting and that added another dimension to our tour. Seeing the town through the eyes of a tourist allowed us to appreciate Plymouth in a different way. The next day they went to Plymouth Plantation on their own since we have already visited the plantation.

When visiting the Cape, take an afternoon and take a short drive to Plymouth and enjoy the history and the views.

Pictures of our Swan Babies

I mentioned in an earlier blog that the two swans that inhabit Mill Pond across the street from the Tidewater had babies last month. I finally got around to taking pictures and am posting them and they are beautiful...still fuzzy, but they have grown considerably. Enjoy the pictures and make sure to walk across the street to visit them when you are on the Cape.
