There's a lot to do on the Cape this weekend in addition to enjoying the beautiful weather that is predicted.  In addition to the St. Patrick's Day festivities and parade, there's the Multicultural Festival at Cape Cod Community College.  Below  is a description of the 10th annual festival from Cape Events.

Over 40 different displays, demonstrations, and performers, plus outstanding cuisine from around the world await attendees at this year’s 10th Annual Multicultural Festival of Cape Cod on the West Barnstable campus of Cape Cod Community College Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is produced free every year showcasing the histories, lifestyles, and cultures of the people from around the world who call Cape Cod their home today.


Well over 100 volunteers staff information tables, offer unique goods for sale, and entertain throughout the day, with all activities at no charge. Both stages of the Tilden Arts Center will be filled with performers; dancers, singers, instrumentalists from the widest possible traditions including the Caribbean, England, Scotland, Bavaria, Africa, West Africa, Guinea, Spain, Egypt, Iran, Haiti, Peru, the African-American experience, and what was once known as the Arabian provinces. In addition, Native American storytelling, drumming, singing, and dance, presented by members of the Wampanoag Tribe of Mashpee, will be featured throughout the day.

Special activities for children are an important part of the festival. Face painting plus children’s storytelling, and a “Passport” for young people to use to visit countries during their “around the world” travels

St. Patrick's Day on Cape Cod

Boston is not the only place with a parade for St. Patrick's Day.  Cape Cod has a popular parade with bands and floats which will take place on Saturday March 6th at 11AM in Dennis.  The theme of the parade this year is Heroes & Heroines of Ireland.  The Grand Marshall this year is Former mayor Raymond Flynn.

More Theater on Cape Cod

As I mentioned in earlier blogs, two musicals, "Bye Bye Birdie" and "The Sound of Music", are both playing on Cape. In addition, this weekend is the last opportunity to see "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) at the Cotuit Center of the Arts. In the words of the Center, "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, is a whirlwind roller coaster tribute to the immortal bard. Three actors take on the daunting task of performing 37 plays and 154 sonnets in under two hours...Irreverent and hilarious, this comedy sensation delights audiences and critics alike with a refreshing blend of madcap humor.." Sounds like a great way to spend an evening.

The Cotuit Center of the Arts was founded to "supply the community with an array of programs that encourage artistic development, exploration, and experimentation and to increase awareness of the creative process by facilitating communication and interaction among artists and between artists and the public." Throughout the year, it offers performances, exhibitions, and educational opportunities. Quite an ambitious undertaking! In addition, Christine Duren, the Executive Director, told us at a Chamber meeting a few days ago that they are will also be hosting wedding receptions in their beautiful facility.
