April School Vacation Activities & Specials

April School Vacation for Massachusetts schools is fast approaching (April 15 - April 24th) and the Tidewater is getting ready. Vacation week marks the official opening for most of the businesses that closed during the off season. Favorite waterfront restaurants, mini golf, ice cream shops and many others will be opening for the season. This week is a very popular time for the Cape. The weather is usually mild, the hotel rates are still low, and there's much to do on the Cape. There's many child oriented activities during vacation week and the Cape is geared to family fun. As the date approaches I will be detailing some of the many special activities scheduled during this week.

Cape Cod Children's Museum has a full week of fun and educational activities for kids. Visit their website, http://www.capecodchildrensmuseum.org/
The Wellfleet Wildlife Sanctuary is another wonderful way to spend the day with the children during vacation week. It's a 1,100 acre retreat that showcases the Cape's diverse habitats, beaches, woods, salt marshes and ponds. They offer bird walks led by a naturalist, educational programs, and guided tours of the Cape Cod National Seashore. There are even evening lectures and camping facilities. During vacation they offer additional children's activities. Check out their website, http://www.massaudubon.org/ for more information. The trails are open every day from 8am to dusk and the Nature Center is open 8:30 to 5pm daily. 508-349-2615.

In April , the Whale Watch out of Provincetown begins again. Spend the day exploring the National Seashore and enjoy some of the scenic vistas along the way or hike one of the scenic trails and proceed to Provincetown and the whale watch. After the whale watch enjoy dinner in one of the many wonderful resaurants that Provincetown has to offer. This is one of my favorite ways to spend the day on the Cape.

And of course, all of the mini golfs open for the season during this week. Two of the largest, Pirates Cove and Skull Island, are in Yarmouth. There's lots more to do...bike trail, hiking, walks on the beach...this is just a sampling. At the end of the day just relax in our hot tub while the kids enjoy the pool.

Our breakfast diner, Helen's Diner, will be open all week so that you can enjoy a hearty home style breakfast before beginning your day. Our special for the week is $69.99, Sunday - Thursday and $79.99 Friday and Saturday. Give us a call at 508-775-6322 if you have any questions.

What a Weekend!

We had a beautiful stretch of weather on Cape Cod culminating in an amazingly sunny, springlike weekend.  We sold out Saturday even without our Tidewater sign! (New sign has been ordered and will be ready shortly.) The Cape was full of hockey players participating in the Lobster Pot Tournament.  We had a group of very active 10 year old hockey players.  They, along with other guests and families, certainly took advantage of our indoor pool and enjoyed swimming and lounging around the pool. Many mentioned our newly painted beach mural on the wall and how it brightened up the room.  In addition, our guests took full advantage of the beautiful weather and used the picnic area and playground. Overall, it was a perfect weekend.

Monday was cloudy with light rain, but I took advantage of a dry hour and planted pansies in the planters outside of our office building.  The rain today is just what we need.  The crocuses are up and the daffodils are well along...I love spring and the bright yellows, purples, and blues of spring flowers.  Speaking of daffodils, why not plan a trip to the Cape the weekend of April 23rd to enjoy the Nantucket Daffodil Festival when the whole island celebrates daffodils. For more information visit: http://www.nantucketchamber.org/visitor/daffodil.html

Take advantage of our current Manager's Special which is valid until the end of March:  Sunday - Thursday $49.99, Friday and Saturday $59.99. Visit our website for more information http://www.tidewatercapecod.com/ or call us at 508-775-6322. Happy Spring!

Stormy Weekend

We did get the stormy weekend on Cape Cod that forecasters predicted. Friday was merely cloudy, but the rain started on Saturday and by the evening the rain was heavy and the high winds started. Around 9PM we lost power throughout the hotel for a couple of hours.  Lisa, the front office manager handed out glo sticks to all the guests so they could manuever around their room. The glo sticks actually work pretty well and last for many hours.

In the morning, we found our Tidewater sign was gone.  It had blown away and is probably sitting in someone's yard! We're ordering a new one, but hopefully, our guests can find us before the new one is up.  Now the good news. By Wednesday and Thursday the sun is supposed to come out and the temperatures will be close to 60 degrees.  Maybe I can find some pansies to plant in our planters in front of the office. Spring is in the air!

Rainy Day Activities on Cape Cod

Who doesn't want beautiful sunny days when they visit Cape Cod, but of course, we know that living in New England, the weather is unpredictable and rain will fall. There's endless things to do when the sun is shining, but what to do when it's raining? I've compiled a list of things to do. Some the the activities are seasonal and I will indicate those.

If you need to get away from the stress you can always spend the day relaxing in our indoor heated pool and hot tub. The room is spacious and cheerful and a great place to read a book, swim, and visit.  Call us at the Tidewater, 508-775-6322, or visit our website, http://www.tidewatercapecod.com/ for more information.

And of course, there's exploring the many picturesque towns on the Cape, each with its own personality and flavor in addition to the activities listed below.  This is only a fraction of things to do.  Feel free to give me your own suggestions.

There's a lot to do on the Cape this weekend in addition to enjoying the beautiful weather that is predicted.  In addition to the St. Patrick's Day festivities and parade, there's the Multicultural Festival at Cape Cod Community College.  Below  is a description of the 10th annual festival from Cape Events.

Over 40 different displays, demonstrations, and performers, plus outstanding cuisine from around the world await attendees at this year’s 10th Annual Multicultural Festival of Cape Cod on the West Barnstable campus of Cape Cod Community College Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is produced free every year showcasing the histories, lifestyles, and cultures of the people from around the world who call Cape Cod their home today.

Well over 100 volunteers staff information tables, offer unique goods for sale, and entertain throughout the day, with all activities at no charge. Both stages of the Tilden Arts Center will be filled with performers; dancers, singers, instrumentalists from the widest possible traditions including the Caribbean, England, Scotland, Bavaria, Africa, West Africa, Guinea, Spain, Egypt, Iran, Haiti, Peru, the African-American experience, and what was once known as the Arabian provinces. In addition, Native American storytelling, drumming, singing, and dance, presented by members of the Wampanoag Tribe of Mashpee, will be featured throughout the day.

Special activities for children are an important part of the festival. Face painting plus children’s storytelling, and a “Passport” for young people to use to visit countries during their “around the world” travels

Come to the Cape and enjoy our manager's special of $59.99 per night.  The weather is supposed to be sunny and in the high 40's...a hint of spring.
